What is value investing?

The Buffet Style

I have been a value investor for years. I have studied finance and banking at degree level. I remember the days I was doing a module on my degree course called Treasury and Portfolio management, I was first exposed to Warren Buffet. From that class 15 years ago, I was hooked and became a  Warren Buffet junkie. I have read every Buffet book, I have gone over all of his letters to shareholders. I have a portfolio in my investments with the name "The Buffet Strategy". I could go on, but the gist of the matter is that I have one or two things to share.

To me, value investing is simplified as buying great companies at great prices. Notice that there are two elements to this.

1. Great companies

2. Great prices

You can buy a good company at an awful price - that is not pure value investing because the price may be greater than the value you get. You can also buy an awful company at a great price but you will still get a lower value than the price you paid. The objective is to do the right asset selection and pay the right price. Great companies make and grow their turns consistently. Companies with the best prices have low P/Es compared to their counterparts, This is why I snap up these stocks whenever there is a market crash. COVID 19 is a good example of the cycles that can make stocks cheaper.

For years, I have served as a useful source for those seeking inspiration, help, or advice. I finally decided to own that role and be intentional about it. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and curious wonderings about the market. I founded Value Investor with a mission to give others a taste of what goes on in my mind, and I have been at it ever since.
